Originally teased last month, Robotech fans finally have a date for when the remastered series hits Funimation: August 24. Funimation will be premiering all 85 episodes of the series, fully remastered, along with its two movies, Robotech II: The Sentinels and Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, on its streaming service in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Robotech originally aired in 1985 in the United States becoming an instant classic among fans who felt they were too mature for the likes of Masters of the Universe and Thundercats. The show is built more like a space opera about pilots inside gigantic mechs who are fighting off invaders from far-off worlds. Only through unlocking the secrets of Robotechnology do they have any hope of survival. Funimation provided an example of how good the remaster actually looks.
Soon after the show premieres on Funimation, a remastered box set will be released on September 28. Exclusively on the Funimation Shop, the set will contain all 85 episodes all remastered for the first time on Blu-ray in Dolby Digital.
With its retro packaging design, the collector’s edition also includes an exclusive Variant Transforming Robotech – Roy Fokker’s VF-1S; an exclusive Variant Action Figure – Roy Fokker in Pilot Uniform Variant Shade of Black; and a series of Robotech-themed embroidered patches. Official Robotech merchandise is extremely rare, especially outside of the dolls, so collectors may want to jump on that offer immediately.
